APPLICATION
Long Residency is a six-month studio residency at The Weaving Workshop, designed for Chicago-area artists who want consistent access to an affordable, communal workspace within a community of fiber and mixed-media artists.
Residents commit to a six-month term with an automated monthly payment of $250. Payment is due on the first of each month for the full duration of the residency, regardless of studio usage. Because Long Residency is a fixed six-month commitment rather than a month-to-month arrangement, residents are responsible for planning around any periods when they may not be using the studio.
What Long Residency Includes
Residents receive:
A 20" × 48" dedicated shelf for storing work and materials throughout the residency
24-hour studio access, seven days a week
Access to our dye area and studio tools
Discounted basketry and studio materials
Access to a monthly studio calendar showing scheduled classes, workshops, and events
Studio access may occasionally be limited during scheduled classes, workshops, or special studio events. The monthly calendar will help residents plan their studio time accordingly.
Being Part of the Community
The Weaving Workshop is an intimate studio and educational space, and we ask our residents to be active, respectful members of the community. This means treating students, fellow residents and members, teaching artists, and visitors with kindness and respect, and helping us maintain a welcoming and collaborative studio environment.
What If I Need to Leave Before Six Months?
Long Residency is a six-month commitment, and residents are responsible for the full term, similar to a lease. If your circumstances change and you need to leave before your six-month term is complete, please contact us directly. We will do our best to work with you toward a reasonable solution, but early termination is not guaranteed and may be subject to a fee or forfeiture of your shelf space.
We recommend signing up for Long Residency only if you are confident that you can commit to the full six-month term.
Please Note
Long Residency does not include housing or a stipend. The program is specifically designed for local Chicago-area artists seeking affordable, consistent access to communal studio space and a welcoming community of fiber and mixed-media artists.
We are excited to have Long Residents become an ongoing part of The Weaving Workshop community and look forward to seeing what you make here.
